1950s Japan. The nation remainds mired in the after-effects of World War II. In the city of Osaka lives Mariko. a prostitute -- very different. status wise, from a hostess who beds Gls in the slums. Her father constantly visits in search only of money. Like the men she beds for a living. he sees her only as a means for filling a need. Whatever identity she had was lost in the blast.
