The previously popular Asian smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi disappointed at its last IPO in Hong Kong. And this is probably due not least to the fact that the Asian competition is getting better and better and above all bigger. Oppo in particular is becoming more and more popular in this country and is gradually conquering the European market again. Already some years ago the company offered its devices in this country, but this was not pursued any further. Because the manufacturers withdrew with the business of the Smartphones first of all again and developed in this time successfully further. But how exactly the manufacturer wants to conquer the market at the second attempt and what the new Oppo find X has to offer, you can find out in the following article.
The Oppo of yesteryear
Oppo find 7 and Oppo Find 7a were the models that were relatively popular here in 2014. But then nothing came anymore and the manufacturer Oppo concentrated on the European market mainly for Blue-Ray players or other home cinema accessories. The smartphone business itself was first left to the sister company OnePlus, which was able to prove itself successfully through various online shops and pop-up stores alongside Samsung and Co.
Especially in China, the Oppo was already one of the most popular smartphones on the market. The streetscape of Chinese cities is dominated by the green Oppo banner and wherever you look, you will find the colorful advertising posters of the manufacturer. In Europe, Oppo was last seen at the Mobile World Congress in 2017, where the manufacturer amazed with its 5X zoom technology. However, this technology has not yet been anchored in a product available to customers.
Whether Oppo really comes back with its smartphones or not has been under discussion for quite some time. But now there is certainty. Because a company spokesman of the manufacturer confirmed the intention of the Chinese to enter also in Europe again into the business of the Smartphones and to secure thus its market shares.
The new Oppo find X
In August 2018, Oppo will make its promise come true and bring the new smartphone Oppo find X to Europe. For the time being, however, it will only appear in France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. It is not yet clear exactly when the device will be released in Germany.
The Oppo find X, is a work of art of the special class. Not for nothing did the manufacturer choose the world-famous art museum, the Louvre in Paris, for the presentation of the smartphone. The new Oppo has a huge, almost borderless screen, which comes without the widespread display notch. However, one looks in vain for a camera.
Almost all smartphone manufacturers have one thing in common. The search for a way to offer as much display as possible, while still keeping the phone handy. Apple Huawai & Co. have already found a way to do this by simply loosening the recess at the top. Oppo and Vivo, however, have found another way to make the screen as large as possible. And with success. Because the screen has a proud size of 42 inches in the 19.5:9 format with a sharp Full HD resolution of 2340x1080 pixels. But even on the back of the glass housing there is no camera or fingerprint sensor. But of course Oppo didn't forget the camera. However, the manufacturer has found a solution to hide this feature so that it doesn't bother the user. It only becomes visible when the camera app is opened. Only then does a kind of rail move upwards, which reveals the 20-megapixel camera with a 16-megapixel sensor. Some people might think that this takes too much time if you have to take a quick snapshot. Oppo assures that this process should take place within 0.5 seconds.
The manufacturer has done without the fingerprint sensor in a similar way to the Apple iPhone X, however. Instead, the model offers 3D face recognition to unlock the device. The Oppo find X captures up to 15,000 infrared points, which, according to the manufacturer, is 20 times safer than fingerprint unlocking. In order to unlock the Oppo find X with your face, you have to switch on the display and then wipe the screen upwards. The device's camera will then extend to scan the face. After the scan, the camera disappears automatically into the housing and the device is released.
Advantages and disadvantages of the camera carriage
As with most things, the feature of the retractable camera offers some advantages, but also some disadvantages. One of the main advantages, for example, is that the Oppo find X offers a good screen-to-body ratio of 93.8% due to the camera sled, according to the manufacturer, whereby all lenses are protected from dirt and scratches. A big disadvantage, however, is that you have to do without the protection provided by a cover, otherwise the extension mechanism of the camera will be disturbed. This aspect is very bad, because the module is very susceptible to dust, and the question is how long you can rely on the mechanism at all. Not to mention the fact that the case is partly made of glass and that for this reason alone it would be advantageous to protect it.
If you take a look inside the device, it turns out that the manufacturer of the Oppo find X relies on a Snapdragon 845 processor. The memory of the device has 8 GB, whereas the internal memory has up to 256 GB. The battery's 3,730 milliampere-hours provide a quick charge function that is comparable to that of the OnePlus 6. Furthermore the Oppo find X supports the use of 2 nano SIM cards. However, it is not known whether you have to do without the slot of the SD card by using a second Sim.
To briefly explain the software, it can be said that the current Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with the manufacturer's own ColorOS version 5.1 interface is used.
Price and Release
As already mentioned, the Oppo find X will appear in August 2018, in Europe. It is already available in China and costs 999 Euro in the normal version, whereas in the luxury Lamborghini edition it carries a proud price of 1,700 Euro. This price is justified by a larger internal memory of 512 GB and a battery that is smaller than the conventional battery with 3,400 milliampere hours, but (according to the manufacturer) fully charged after 35 minutes.
