Everyone wants more freedom in their lives. Between our jobs, spouses, and other commitments, much of our lives are the result of compromises and other people’s will. Anything we can do to return some of that control to our own hands is therefore worth considering.

For many people, a campervan is the perfect way of bringing some control back to their lives and giving them greater freedom when they go travelling. But if you want to travel in comfort and style, you will need to be prepared to spend enough to move beyond the cheapest and lowest tier options.

How Much Does Running a Campervan Cost?

As well as the cost of the vehicle itself, campervan owners also need to factor in a host of other costs and expenditures. For example, unless you are planning on camping out in your driveway, you will need to pay for petrol so it can be driven.

You will also need to factor in the rest of the usual costs associated with vehicle ownership, insurance in particular. A caravan that can be attached to another vehicle and towed doesn’t require any specific insurance. However, any mobile home that is self-propelled - meaning it can be driven - will require insurance just like any other vehicle.

Reducing Your Costs

Of course, you can always reduce the amount of money that you need to spend on your campervan by purchasing one second-hand. In fact, for most people, buying second-hand is going to be the best option, as it will save them money without having to sacrifice on quality.

Similarly, when it comes to kitting out your campervan with all the utensils, furniture and other items that you need when you’re out on the road, shopping around and considering second-hand items when appropriate can make you further savings.

Raising the Funds

Even if you take every step you can to reduce the costs of purchasing your campervan, you are still going to need to raise a reasonable amount of money, unless you find a really good deal. If raising the funds that you need to buy the campervan of your dreams doesn’t seem realistic, then financing might be the perfect solution.

When you get a campervan on finance, instead of paying for it all at once, you undertake to make monthly payments towards its cost. Ultimately, this will mean that you spend more money on the campervan, as there will be some level of interest charged. However, these monthly payments are much easier to make than the much larger lump sum that you would pay to buy the vehicle outright.

There are a number of different costs associated with owning a campervan, you need to prepare for all of them before you commit yourself to buying the vehicle. If you are prepared to shop around and are happy to consider second-hand vehicles, there will be plenty of options open to you. If you look in the right place, you can find some amazing deals on campervans.
